Eternity 10 - Prayers That Work - Praying For Spiritual Growth
Paul prayed an incredible prayer for the Ephesian Christians:
(Ephesians 3:14-21 NKJV) For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, {15} from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, {16} that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, {17} that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, {18} may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height; {19} to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. {20} Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, {21} to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
Paul expected this prayer to be answered!
Paul wrote it down so we could pray it for ourselves!
Paul says God's address is in our hearts! "be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, {17} that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith"
This prayer tells us that God wants us to be strong "strengthened with might" and spiritual "through his Spirit" and new persons on the inside "in the inner man" and this will happen as we develop confidence in God "through faith.
Paul sets no limit on spiritual growth - He says we can go all the way to the top - to the "fullness of God" and total Christlikeness.
The growth is personal, it is a growth in love, a growth in our ability to love God and neigbour and ourselves. A new way of being that is rooted and grounded in the vast love of God. "the love of Christ which passes knowledge".
Paul says the power is available - God does abundantly above all that we ask or think!
He says the power is at hand - "according to the power that works in us,"
This prayer is there to be prayed - that we might grow - and know the love of God.
Why not pray Paul's prayer today!
Blessings,
John Edmiston
