Genesis 24:28-49 MKJV And the young woman ran and told her mother's house these things.  (29)  And Rebekah had a brother, and his name was Laban. And Laban ran out to the man, to the well.  (30)  And it happened when he saw the earrings and bracelets upon his sister's hands, and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister, saying, So spoke the man to me, he came to the man. And behold, he stood by the camels at the well.  (31)  And he said, Come in, blessed of Jehovah. Why do you stand outside? For I have prepared the house, and room for the camels.  (32)  And the man came into the house. And he unloaded his camels, and gave straw and fodder to the camels, and water to wash his feet and the feet of the men that were with him.  (33)  And food was set before him to eat. But he said, I will not eat until I have told my errand. And he said, Speak on.  (34)  And he said, I am Abraham's servant.  (35)  And Jehovah has blessed my master greatly, and he has become great. And He has given him flocks and herds and silver and gold, and male slaves and slave women, and camels and asses.  (36)  And Sarah my master's wife bore a son to my master when she was old. And he has given to him all that he has.  (37)  And my master made me swear, saying, You shall not take a wife to my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I live. ... (45) And before I finished speaking in my heart, behold, Rebekah came out with her pitcher on her shoulder. And she went down to the well and drew water. And I said to her, Please let me drink.  (46)  And she hurried and let down her pitcher from her shoulder, and said, Drink, and I will give drink to your camels also. So I drank, and she made the camels drink also.... (48)  And I bowed my head and worshiped Jehovah, and blessed Jehovah, the God of my master Abraham, who had led me in the right way to take my master's brother's daughter to his son.  (49)  And now if you will deal kindly and truthfully with my master, tell me. And if not, tell me so that I may turn to the right hand or to the left.

Abraham's servant Eliezer has just met Rebekah and found her to be eminently suitable to be the wife of (now 40 year old) Isaac, the heir of promise. Eliezer is now introduced to Laban and to the wider family who are happy to receive such an obviously senior and wealthy guest.

Eliezer retells the entire story of his journey, his prayer and his meeting with Rebekah in such a way that a few things are evident:

a) Abraham is very, very wealthy and has only one heir and is related to them and thus that Rebekah would marry into a substantial fortune.

b) The whole thing was arranged by God as “fate”, as a divine appointment, not to be argued with in any way.

c) That he (Eliezer) expected them to deal honorably and expeditiously with him.
